The Civil War in the Southwest is back at the Picacho Peak State Park in Arizona! Due to budget short falls, last years event was canceled. However, it is back in 2010 and happening in just under a month. Mark your calendars for the March 13th-14th event. If you are looking forward to getting away for an early spring vacation be sure to check this out. This years event should be a lot of fun. I'd bet you didn't even know there was a battle this far west. Well, there was and this event re-enacts the western most Civil War engagement. Not only is this event kicking off the spring- it is a great time to see the natural beauty the park has to offer. Generally this time of year the poppies are in bloom. Just about every 5 years or so, they bloom extra pretty. Due the extra moisture the area has had this year- the chances are pretty good for a strong poppy season. But, the only way to find out for sure is to go and visit the park. Make sure you pack your camera! Either way the park offers great scenery and unique Southwest landscapes.
